Impact Analysis Report: How Our Virtual Workshop is Empowering Advocates for Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy Change

Introduction to Policy Advocacy

Policy advocacy is a powerful tool for shaping societal change. It involves the strategic use of information, communication, and community engagement to influence policy decisions and create an environment that supports human rights, well-being, and development. In the context of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), policy advocacy becomes even more critical. Advocacy helps ensure that individuals, especially marginalized groups, have access to essential SRH services, education, and resources.

Why is Policy Advocacy Important for Sexual and Reproductive Health in Africa?

In Africa, where barriers to SRH services are often reinforced by outdated policies, cultural stigmas, and resource limitations, policy advocacy plays a key role in breaking down these barriers. Effective policy advocacy can lead to the creation of more inclusive health systems, greater access to family planning resources, improved maternal health outcomes, and stronger protections against harmful practices like female genital mutilation (FGM). By engaging policymakers and educating communities, advocates can drive systemic changes that improve SRH services for all.

The Sexual & Reproductive Health Policy Advocacy Workshop

To address these pressing issues, Girl Power Afrique organized a Virtual Policy Advocacy Workshop focused on building the capacity of young people in Africa to engage in SRH policy advocacy. Held over three days, the workshop was designed to empower participants with practical skills in advocacy, campaign planning, and stakeholder engagement. Over 200 people from 14 countries registered to attend our workshop.
